PORTLAND, Ore. – The City of Portland approved a new fee requiring landlords to pay once a year for each home or apartment they own and rent out.
The city passed the ordinance this morning by a 3 to 1 vote, with only Commissioner Amanda Fritz objecting.
The annual $60-per-unit fee will fund the city's rental services office and help keep tabs on who's renting in the city.
Landlords objected to it, previously telling city leaders the charge would just trickle down to tenants.
Affordable housing units are exempt from the fee.
